Two moments inspired me to create this sound piece, Calling Piece, developed for the New Performance Turku Biennale.
The first was during a phone call with my mother. In the middle of our conversation, she spoke my name. For a moment, everything shifted — I was filled with a sudden, undeniable love. I’ve carried that instant with me ever since, in case someone ever asks what love means to me. The second came a few months later. I was walking home through the trees with one of my dearest friends. Lost in thought, I didn’t notice when she stepped deeper into the woods. I kept walking — until I heard her call my name. In the stillness of that quiet evening, the sound of my own name drew me out of my buzzing mind. My first thought was: Seems I actually exist in this world. Being called like that quietly altered how I understand the idea of being.”

This sound piece is composed of recordings of 73 mothers calling the names of their 116 children.
