A Short Course on The Theory of Design Naturally- 2012

This was the first great opportunity to present the Theory of Design Naturally to new audiences from other countries and with diverse backgrounds in different fields of design. This intensive course happened at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts, and Design, Stockholm, Sweden, in January 2012. Both design students and professional designers were among the participants and this could indeed enhance the quality of our discussions during the course. The challenging part was that, since I could not travel to Sweden due to some visa problems, we had to run the course via Skype. Although I could not have an absolute control over every detail in the class like having a good observation on the projects each individual was pursuing, thanks to the technology and the assistants who were there, I could manage to present the idea successfully and comment on the ongoing individual projects to some extent. Each session used to start with an introduction and a short discussion about the theories and continue with some exercises to make sure that everyone has understood the logic behind the principles and this theory in general.  After a few days of elaboration on the theoretical basis and some practical exercises with different mediums such as clay, all of the participants were asked to design a simple product by applying the theory of Design Naturally as their final project. The course ended with a long constructive discussion about different aspects of this theory and the future possibilities.
